What you need to know starting out...
During this training, participants sign on for eight classes to learn about and become proficient in their use of declarative language. This speaking style is powerful in guiding social learning. Topics covered during the eight classes range from the basics of what is a declarative statement, to specific scenarios and learning opportunities in which we can use declarative language to guide social learning. Overall mechanics and the construction of declarative statements are practiced in depth.
Schedule
To follow are weekly topics. These may be modified slightly based on what is most relevant for the group:
Week 1: Introduction to The Power of Declarative Language – A Thoughtful Language Style to Help Kids with Social Learning Challenges Feel Competent, Connected, and Understood
Week 2: Video Reviews, Discussion, and Q&A
Week 3: Co-Regulation and a Guiding Mindset
Week 4: Video Reviews, Discussion, and Q&A
Week 5: Visual Referencing & Nonverbal Communication
Week 6: Video Reviews, Discussion, and Q&A
Week 7: Appreciating Different Opinions
Week 8: Video Reviews, Discussion, and Q&A
What you need to do...
Participants are encouraged to complete a baseline video and self-reflection worksheet prior to starting the workshop (formal instructions to be provided), and complete homework assignments as discussed after sessions 1, 3, 5 and 7. Homework assignments consist of active practice with one’s own child around a concept. One optional 3 to 5-minute clip is submitted prior to the next class.
Participants’ clips will be used in class for reflection, trouble shooting, shared celebration of progress, observation of growth, and overall group learning. Using personal video clips in this way is powerful as it paves the way for individual meaning and application of the concepts covered and allows Linda to provide individual guidance around the dynamics of interactions with your child. All participants benefit from shared videos. Participants may also wish to purchase Declarative Language Handbook, available on Amazon, to supplement their learning.
Cost: $200 for this 8-session workshop
