FAST TALKERS! For Kids Who Stutter

This has been a popular series over the past year and we are excited to offer it periodically for kids who stutter! In this group, kids can help motivate each other to find their voices! Learn strategies to slow down, chunk words and phrases, and coordinate speech and breathing. Please let us know if you are interested. Dates and time are to be determine based on interest.

In this group, kids motivate each other to find their voices!  We learn strategies to show down, chunk words and phrases, and coordinate speech and breathing.

One of the hardest aspects of stuttering and other fluency challenges is the feeling of "no one else speaks like I do." Working through communication
struggles alongside others can be a powerful learning tool. There are several advantages to group therapy, including support, accountability, and peer feedback.

This group integrates peer support, discussion, technique practice, and speaking and breathing activities to help garner confidence and build strong communication skills during play and conversation.

Specific Activities Include:
● Pacing strategies
● Breathing and pausing
● Intonation and word separation
● Exaggerated speech, continuous voicing, and elongating words
● Unison and choral speaking

  • Depending on your insurance and child, this may be covered, with only copay or deductible due.
  • NOTE: some insurances are waiving cost share for telehealth at this time.

Aphasia is a communication disorder that is caused by a stroke, brain injury, or other neurological disorder. During this 6-week enrichment program, Darya Deker, M.S., CF-SLP, will lead a conversation hour for people with aphasia. The supportive group will encourage people with aphasia to share and explore communication strategies, practice using their devices to connect with others, and foster a sense of community regardless of current language abilities. I Am Unique:  I’m the Only Me!

When: Contact the office to express interest and we will then schedule dates/times
Ages: 6-8 years old

In this 6 week expansion of I Am Unique, group leaders Lizz Ramirez and Darya Deker will focus on identity, self-awareness, values and role models, and perspective-taking to help kids grow thoughtful and caring relationships with themselves and others. I’m the Only Me! will guide children to understand all the parts of their identities that make them each so unique!

Together we will learn to identify personal strengths and selective strategies to use in the moment. We hope to create an empowering environment that allows group members to reflect and embrace not only their strengths but their areas of growth as well! Including a child in better understanding how they think, learn, process and grow while modeling a positive mindset is quite remarkable to watch unfold!
